Vancouver Interior Design: Planning Patti’s Bathroom

Kelly isn’t the only one working with a client on a bathroom transformation… I AM TOO! And I’m so very excited about the opportunity!!

I’ve remodeled a few bathrooms with my husband (I’m sharing one with readers over at Primed4Design today – go check it out!) but this will be my first client bathroom. Follow along with me as I help Patti create a gorgeous bathroom!

So where are we right now? I brought in my builder and we have our quote in hand, we just need to confirm with him and then all will be a go for a December 1st project start.

How about I start by showing you a photo of a bathroom that looks a good deal like Patti’s (I can’t find the photos I took of HER bathroom!! But I’ll take some more soon and share the real deal)…

The plan is to make two structural changes to the room: 1) To the left of the photo you can see a wall… that’s the linen closet, accessible in the hallway. We’re pulling this OUT! 2) Reflected in the mirror you can see a door… it’s a pocket door to the master bedroom. We’re removing this door completely!

The vanity is going… the almond-coloured tub is going… the toilet is going (it’s almond-coloured too, unlike the one in the room above)… the floor will be pulled up as well as the tile (and boarding behind the tile – replaced with new cement board) around the tub.

It’s all coming out!!!

So what’s going back in? Take a look at this vanity…

This is a vanity that Patti found and really loves (she doesn’t love the mirror though and I can’t blame her!). As you can see, it’s a dark wood – but what you can’t really see is that it’s stripped in stainless steel along the bottom and just across the top (under the counter). The counter itself is a fresh white quartz.

BUT…

Remember I mentioned that we’re removing the linen closet? Well… I’m replacing it with a linen tower in the bathroom… and that means that the vanity above is a little bit too long. Darn!

No worries… I’ve drawn up some plans (using the drafting skills I’m learning in class!)… I’ve taken them to my cabinet maker Bob… and he’s going to make Patti a vanity that’s almost the same!!

We’re just waiting for Bob’s quote… but it should be competitive with the original vanity cost. Patti and I may tweak things a little… I’ll be sure to share our plans if they change!

Can you see the cross-hatching in the drawing, above the vanity and behind the mirror? That’ll be tile, straight to the ceiling. Something beautiful in greys and whites like this:

This is a Sarah Richardson bathroom… and she’s a bathroom-designer goddess!!

And the mirror that will sit on tiled wall? I’m thinking something feminine like this…

And bathtub tiles… how about 4x12 white tiles and a sparkly, iridescent grey glass listello? Clean and simple.

So that’s where we’re at right now… Patti has to finalize the decision to go with a custom-built vanity and linen tower so that we can place our order… I have to source out a special tile for above the vanity… we have to purchase a new tub and toilet.

But it’s all so much fun!!
